The Dixie Amazon discusses knitting, tea and whatever else captures her fancy.
I cast on for my MEbius today and knitted just a few rows since my thumb is bothering me today. I went to my primary care doctor yesterday. She put me on a low dose of blood pressure medication. I feel better already! My head isn't pounding. I go back to the doctor in a month. If my thunb isn't better by then she is going to give me a cortisone shot in my thumb. Gee... I can't wait.
LOL
I worked on my website's knitting links page today (when I should have been mopping). Check it out and see if you like the organization and navigation better. I would appreciate the feedback.
| Stasia has started a new knit along, the MEbius Knit Along, Moebius Scarf Crafting As Soulwork Scarf. This is a Mobius for yourself. Stasia was inspired by an article in An article by Parker J. Palmer from "Spirituality & Health" magazine called Finding Your Soul. At Stasia's kind request I amone of the group's moderators. This makes me feel like such a grown-up. A very odd feeling considering I am 44 with 3 boys (ages 11, 10 & 7). LOL I have decided to knit my MEbius in a 3/3 rib. I don't know how well the pattern will show up in the chenille yarn I have chosen, but that is not the real point of the pattern choice. Three is such a meaningful number... birth/life/death, mind/body/spirit, Father/Son/Holy Spirit and so on. I have not cast on yet. My first task is to wind my yarn into center pull balls which I also find meditative. Dez a member of the KnitU list said it best "When you knit, the yarn is your fellow traveler. Winding it into a ball allows you to meet the yarn..... Before embarking on a complex project, hand-winding slows me down a bit to think and plan about the project and feel how the yarn will work up. I also find the act of hand-winding to be a very meditative and soothing act, so I sometimes wind by hand no matter what yarn it is. It is a wonderful way to de-stress." |
Yanked Around| Looong Day (Whine Alert) It was one of those days it seemed like I was on the phone all day. And not just for fun chit-chat. I'm talking insurance company, the cable company and doctor's office. I have a prescription for my ADD medicine that I have been trying to get filled since Nov. 1st! I was told I needed a letter of medical necessity from my doctor. It has now been faxed to them several times but the insurance company swore they did not get it. The good news is the Rx finally got approved today. My second battle was with the cable company. On the 18th a repairman came out to replace the obsolete outside cables. He ran them differently and ruined our reception. Plus he was sloppy. We finally got to done right by another repairman. Supposedly an adjustor is supposed to come out and evaluate the damage to our overhang by the sloppy repairman. When I called to check on it today it was as if they had never heard about it. I know better. The third call was to the public relations officer at the fire department. My middle son (age 9) developing into quite a firebug. I was able to convince them that this has been a ongoing problem and they are going to send someone over to talk to him. I hope it help. I know kids tend to listen to other adults more than their parents. The last call was to the pediatrician regarding the above mentioned child. He has been on antibiotics almost two weeks and he is getting worse. Whenever he coughs he starts crying because his chest hurts and this is my tough child. He get bronchitis easily and has had pneumonia once. So I tend to be paranoid when the gets sick and take him to the doctor. I had hoped we had caught it and started the medicine early enough, but apparently not. |
HappyThe full moon was gorgeous and bright Friday night. The air quality in Baton Rouge was much better than usual so the clarity was great.
Knitting Content: I've been working on Christmans gifts whenever my thumb allows it and sometimes when it doesn't. I am also sneaked in some time on my 'I Bleed Purple and Gold' scarf during the LSU/Arkansas game. LSU won by a huge amount. Maybe next year I'll make a Arkansas scarf and see if that helps them win next year.
Found a cute frog chart ( http://knitting.about.com/library/weekly/aa051203.htm ). I think I will use it when I get aroung to making a needle case.
I did some internet researh (Hi, my name is Dennise and I am a Google junkie) and apparently what I have is trigger thumb and trigger finger (ring finger right hand). Might be a repetitive stress injury, might not. I have already had carpal tunnel release surgery on that hand and people with carpal tunnel are more likely to have Trigger Thumb than the population at large. If you are curious about the condition go to Trigger Thumb Info
Knitting is at a standstill due to a weird thumb problem that started this week and is getting worse. Initally When I first got up in the morning my thumb joint (the one right below your fingernail) would pop (almost like it was dislocating) whenever I flexed or extended my thumb. This would subside after an hour or so. Sunday it lasted the whole day. I don't know if it was caused by my current projects. I have been making bookmarks for gifts on #3 needles and a cotton buttonhole scarf on #15 needles. Hmmm... maybe I need another project on something in between to two.
As a result I have been mucking around on the computer too much. I made a table sign for the next Baton Rouge In Stitches http://knitting.meetup.com and some small information flyers. I also looked at other blog hosting sites and downloaded HoHO Blog, blog posting tool, but I can't get it to work. grrrr

Hi everyone. I am a SAHM of 3 boys (4 if you count my DH), a border collie and a boxer This is my 1st attempt at a blog I recently started knitting again. I had to give it up years ago, while still a beginner, due to carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands. I had surgery on my right hand 2 years ago, but just recently ran across all my knitting stuff.
Why the Renegade Knitter? Because I rarely follow a pattern exactly or complete a gauge swatch. I realize that this may have to change if I start doing more fitted things. There are a lot of great knitting forums out there, but one of my favorites is Busy Knitting at Yahoo Groups.
